Creating Complex Mobile Landing Pages
Let's say you have a landing page that you have designed mostly for promotion purposes and to hopefully increase conversions. It would not be unusual for such a page to include more than one call to action, and you would likely have a couple of buttons to this effect; after all, we know that buttons invite users to click, but how would you handle this on a mobile page?
The first thing to consider in the scenario above is that more than one call-to-action button may be overkill on a smartphone or tablet. You may be better off making a single call-to-action button larger and more prominent for the benefit of mobile users. The second aspect to think of is whether you would want to make a responsive design version of the landing page. In this case, proper placement of the buttons would need to be more thoughtful.
One way to arrange the buttons on a mobile page would be to stack them up. That is, you would have one action button on top of the other.
The problem is, this is a great opportunity to create a mobile-specific design. You could have a separate button for each conversion goal. If you wanted to create a landing page for three conversions, you could have buttons to read a blog post, like a page on Facebook, and download a white paper.
Now it becomes a question of balancing design on mobile with design on desktop. Do you go the mobile route, or the desktop route? If you were to keep the desktop design and simply make it larger for the mobile phone, it might not be as effective. That is, the desktop design is good for desktop users, and the mobile design is good for mobile users. A great example of this is the mobile version of a website. If a website is designed to look great on a mobile phone, users will often view it on their phone, but when they get to a desktop they then browse the site as if it was optimized for desktop. The example here is of course a good one, but there are many others.
Think about your marketing objectives. Perhaps your goal is not to build traffic, but to generate interest. If this is the case, you will not need as many call-to-action buttons in the first place.
