Feeling Nostalgic? FireFox Interface Has Got You Covered
The FireFoxx desktop interface is an old-school take on modern media icons including YouTube, Twitter, and Twitch. The folder icon seems to be derived from older versions of Windows such as Windows 98 and XP, probably why it's nicknamed Firefox 98. The shortcuts can be dropped anywhere on the screen. The status bar is grey like the classic Windows interface with a functional start button in the bottom left. It currently stores shortcuts for Email, Instagram, and the Run app.
One cool feature of Firefoxx 98 is the screensaver which shows a first-person view of Wolfenstein 3D. But if the user returns and clicks on the social media icons, then they are directed to the author's Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, or Facebook page to see what new updates are being made to FireFoxx 98. There are some decent headshots in the photography folder, in terms of artistic expression of course. The windows can be minimized or closed by clicking the buttons on the top right, unlike the "X" button used for web pages on mobile platforms.
The FireFoxx desktop for mobile has received positive feedback. The only problem is the "Legal" button which prevents users from closing enlarged windows since it overlaps with the "X" button. A few other testers complained about having to drag opened applications around before they could close them. There are some variations of FireFoxx for mobile, though this one is possibly the best version. At the very least, it's a step up from Windows 8 on Windows Phones.
This app has some hidden easter eggs for nostalgic appeal. Bonzi Buddy will pop up randomly. The same is true for the Microsoft agent from Word. All it needs is Jazz Jackrabbit to work in FireFox without requiring the user to change the controls. The startup script for FoxOS has some interesting lines: "Fetching FreePBX settings with gen_amp_conf.php.." and "STARTING ASTERISK" but most people don't use these packages anymore. To input commands, simply use the Cmd Prompt and type "help". A few minor corrections could improve this project. The pdf files shouldn't save under .txt and the image gallery left arrow is slightly bugged.
