Get Out of that Cyberpunk Funk
So, you're constructing a website or perhaps modifying a page to your own liking. How would you go about a cyberpunk-esque look and feel? We're here to discuss a few tools you can use as well as some stylistic pointers to get that Matrix feel going for you. Relax while we give you some direction for your project.
First things first, let's go over style. "Cyberpunk" is a loose term for a genre of stylistic elements that add up to a rebellious or outlaw feel in regards to a computerized setting. Okay, so maybe the Matrix wasn't the most fitting example; maybe you want something that's a little more hoodie-and-mask a la Anonymous. Here are some simple ideas to jump-start your inspiration:• Make the backgrounds black or dark gray.• Make all the text a bright, neon green or amber.• Give the font a mono-space, console-esque flair such as Courier.• If you're particularly good, you might try to add CRT-like refresh rate effects, bloom and glitching.• In text entry fields, add a caret (>) at the beginning of any search or input prompt.• You could add a non-interactive command feed off to the side or below the functional elements of the page; this feed would scroll and spout off technical code in response to user inputs.• Visual elements could be made pixelated and blurry where it won't adversely impact the functionality of the site.• Loading screens could be shown with "LOADING" in a corner with an animated ellipsis.
Now, these are just ideas. Whether any of these are your cup of tea or you had other thoughts in mind, you'll need a program to execute them with. You, as a developer, probably have some ideas already, but we'd like to extend a few suggestions. Check out the following:• Google Maps APIs Styling Wizard• Create custom controls for Google Maps through Google's own functionality editor, then modify the results with CSS.• MapBox Studio
These are in addition to the obvious places you can go for assistance with creating code and tools for building your own ideas such as CodePen. Good luck and have fun! For more information click here https://i.imgur.com/zJMgoN8.png.
