Here's an Old School CSS Version of Grand Theft Auto

As one of the most controversial titles in the history of video games, Grand Theft Auto is an incredibly successful franchise. With a massive fan base and a great track record in terms of global sales, Grand Theft Auto somehow manages to get the attention of countless gamers year after year. One of GTA's greatest assets is its intuitive gameplay design that can turn a grim plot revolving a life of crime into a very enjoyable gaming experience.

Even though each new GTA title can pretty much guarantee record sales for developer Rockstar Games, the multiplayer online edition of GTA V has been the biggest moneymaker. Industry analysts believe that Rockstar Games has a pretty good grasp on what the future of video games will be with regard to online and browser-based play, and this seems to have been the inspiration behind the GTA CSS3D project undertaken by GitHub member Beclamide.

It should be noted that Beclamide is not associated with Rockstar Games or the GTA brand; he is a web developer interested in what can be done with tools such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to code pure browser games. CSS3D is still a nascent language and coding platform that can be very challenging even for seasoned CSS coders, but it also holds a lot of promise insofar as developing interactive apps and games.

The first thing you will notice about this GitHub project is that Beclamide has done an excellent job of recreating the look and feel of the old school GTA titles, which means that you get a top-down look of a fictional American metropolis. The controls are keyboard-based if you browse from a desktop or laptop. If you use a mobile device, the project will detect a touchscreen and provide you with a virtual steering wheel along with a gas pedal.

If this is your first time interacting with a CSS3D project, you should keep in mind that this is not traditional CSS, which means that the overall experience will hinge upon the hardware specs of your system. Furthermore, the project developer used Three.JS extensively, so do not expect a smooth experience similar to the old GTA games. For more information click here https://github.com/beclamide/gta-css.
