One way to enhance your own skills with web design is to take note of what everyone else is doing, and that usually means a little personal growth into the fine art of watching trends. This includes subscribing to blogs, news feeds, YouTube channels and whatever else gives your eyes something to look at in your spare time at the breakfast table, during lunch break, on the toilet — wherever. Eventually, you learn to like this; it becomes a natural focus with its own self-obsessed gravity to learn about what this person did or where that trend is headed.

This is a manifestation of inner nerd that should be embraced. However, just keep in mind that trends are, by nature, sources of great attraction, which means that the more popular hubs will be the best sources of news despite any stick-it-to-the-man mentality you may harbor.
