What a wonderful time we live in today. The level of advanced technology that we have available today; yet frightening is absolutely astonishing. Zeit Online has created a software that allows you to enter a word and see how often it was used in Parliament during the last 50 years. This remarkable website will create opportunities to instantly go back to the past to specifically pinpoint the rise and or decrease of certain national phenomenons. Imagine what it would be like to use this search engine in America. A kid enters a key term and the results pop up. The graph reads flat until a huge spike jumps up at 2017 and quickly falls back down the following year. If you were wondering what the search was, it was none other than: Fidget Spinners. I could personally spend an embarrassing amount of time searching silly topics like, "Harambe for President or Popeyes Chicken Sandwich." But I believe that this type of technology could be used in a very productive manner as well.
Every day, the news trends with a shocking headline, worded specifically to catch the viewer's attention and to help spread word like wildfire. Buzz words often found in news headlines that grab attention would be: Shot, Killed, Car Accident or Depression. If you were to search for how often the news used the term 'depression' it would likely be in direct correlation to how often internet users searched: "How to deal with depression."
All in all, I think we can agree on one thing. This software could open many doors in the future. It can give us all a visual on how much and how often the world around us is changing. The data collected from these graphs will show what the world sees as an important topic, along with the rise and fall of it.
